Care Centre

Nursing Services

In the Care Centre there is a collection of professionals who look after the emotional, social, behavioural, spiritual and physical well being of the children in their care.

Ms Kate Buffham manages nursing duties from Mondays to Fridays and is joined by Ms Vanessa Bemrose.

The Nurses' role is to provide first-aid and nursing care to the children who have medical problems or who are injured whilst at school. Their role also includes collaboration with other College staff in the development and implementation of health and injury guidelines for the College. The Nurses are also responsible for providing health promotion to staff and students to encourage them to take responsibility for their own health and well-being.

The Care Centre has 'Care Plans' for students at risk. These include handling students with medical conditions, examples of which include juvenile diabetes, epilepsy, asthma and allergic reactions.

Parents may also be assisted by the Nurse who can provide information on first-aid and recommend further follow-up by a doctor.

Mercy College is an 'Asthma Friendly School' . There are first-aid and asthma kits located in prominent areas throughout the College.

The College Nurse also coordinates the immunisation school program.
