The Mercy College Soccer Academy (MCSA) was founded in 2012 with 270 students and has grown to become the biggest Soccer Academy in Western Australia. The program caters for both boys and girls, and provides a specialised soccer pathway from Year 7 through to Year 12. Classes are single gender and ability based, providing both elite and social pathways.
Students train four times a week during school time, once a week after school and compete in the NWAS and Champion Schools soccer competitions. The MCSA aims to provide an innovative and comprehensive program that empowers players with a vision, inspires them to achieve personal excellence and delivers success. The Mini's Soccer Academy was founded in 2013 in order to link the Senior School Academy program to the Junior School. Sessions are extra-curricular at present and provide a fun and exciting platform for our juniors to enjoy the game of soccer.
The MCSA program is based on the philosophies of the FFA Curriculum and has been designed to develop core and advanced skills, tactics and strategies, ball mastery, diet and nutrition, fitness and refereeing skills. Students are also taught the principles of SAQ (speed, agility, quickness) and will be able to develop power, strength and endurance in the weight training facility.
Students in Years 11 and 12 continue with the aforementioned program but also undertake Certificates I and II in Sport and Recreation (soccer focus). The Certificate pathway aims to impart the knowledge and understanding that will enable students to work in the sports industry. Students study 15 units over 2 years, including Senior First Aid, strength and conditioning, advanced soccer skills, tactics and strategies and development of fundamental motor skills.
