Primary Japanese

The Primary School Japanese language program starts in Year three. Students begin by learning a little about Japanese culture, which provides context for the language learning journey they are undertaking.

There are a few key objectives in the program:

We aim to provide a relatively authentic Japanese environment with a focus on the understanding of Japanese language and its culture, experiencing and exploring the differences and similarities between Japanese culture and their own culture, and of course obtaining essential communicative skills in Japanese. Through this, they in turn reflect on their own culture, values and identity. Lastly, we aim for the students to develop an appreciation and understanding for multi-faceted intercultural perspectives that informs a sense of empathy and global perspective.
