Young Vinnies - Extra Curricular - Care Centre - Pastoral Care

Mercy College is doing more than just donating clothes and money, Mercy College is adding a little warmth to someone's life this winter. The Young Vinnies are currently organizing the Winter Appeal challenge. It is a meaningful and educational way for our students to reach out to members of our community who need a little help getting through this winter. We are collecting blankets, pots, pans and clothing.

Vinnies was founded by a 20 year old student named Frederic Ozanam. It was established by youth in the spirit of youth and this compassionate outlook, enthusiasm and vision continues today in Australia .

Vinnies Youth is the name for the inspiring young people who volunteer for the St Vincent de Paul Society Australia . There are thousands of young people who every day share their time, care for humanity and energy to make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged people around Australia .

What age of students should be involved?

Vinnies Youth is a broad term to encompass all ages and groups of volunteers including Young Adults, Young Vinnies (High School and Colleges) and Mini Vinnies (Primary Schools).

Questions to ask when fund raising………

•  Do the agencies we support assist students in developing their understanding of the mission of Jesus?

•  Is the fundraising undertaken in a context of spirituality and prayer?

•  Is the philosophy of the organization in accord with Gospel Values and Catholic Social Teaching?

•  Does the activity strengthen relationships with the wider Catholic community?
