Young Mercies - Extra Curricular - Care Centre - Pastoral Care

Young Mercies is a group of Year 10, 11, 12 students who strive to put the school motto ‘Love in Action' into practise through volunteering in the community after school and during school holidays as well as raising awareness of social justice issues within the school community. The group started in 2004 and since then there have been many students who go out of their ways to help those in need in the community.

During school holidays, the students often spend a few days to help families in need at the Mercy Family Centre in Koondoola and help children at the Cerebral Palsy Association centres in Ballajura and Balcatta. Twice a month, the students and staff deliver soup to the homeless in the Perth metropolitan area through the Red Cross Soup Patrol program.

The Young Mercies group have received much recognition for their volunteer work in the community, notably from the Red Cross and the Cerebral Palsy Association WA. In 2006, Young Mercies won the Young People Who Care Award for the Caring Together category. The award was presented by the Hon. Premier of WA, Mr Alan Carpenter, who was full of praise of the student generosity, commitment and compassion.
