Nursing Services
In the Care Centre there is a collection of professionals who look after the emotional, social, behavioural, spiritual and physical well being of the children in our care.
Mrs Leisa Franchina has returned to the Care Centre to assist with the nursing duties on Mondays, Thursday and Fridays. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays Mrs Kellie Busher takes over those duties.
The Nurse's role is to provide first aid and nursing care to the children who have medical problems or who are injured whilst at school. Her role also includes collaboration with other college staff in the development and implementation of health and injury guidelines for the college. The Nurse is also responsible for providing health promotion to staff and students to encourage them to take responsibly for their own health and well being.
The Care Centre has ‘Care Plans' for students at risk. These include handling students with medical conditions, examples of which include juvenile diabetes, epilepsy, asthma and allergic reactions.
Parents may also be assisted by the Nurse who can provide information on first aid and recommend further follow-up by a doctor.
Mercy College is also an ‘Asthma Friendly School' . There are first aid and asthma kits located throughout the college in prominent areas.
The College Nurse also coordinates the immunisation school program.
