Chapel - Facilities - Our College

The Chapel takes its name from St Brigid of Kildare, a famous Irish Saint from the fifth century who was renowned for her promotion of mysticism and learning. She founded a monastery for women and men in Kildare which developed into a centre of learning, culture and education.

In keeping with the wishes of the student body, the Chapel of St Brigid was to be nestled in our bushland and be part of the natural environment. When the site was prepared, elements of the natural bush were saved to be brought back into the landscaping at the completion of the construction stage. On completion, the Chapel’s modern architecture blends into the surrounding native bushland and provides a meeting point for a diverse Mercy community.

The culmination of ten years planning, two years building and six months organising, saw the Mercy College Chapel officially blessed by the Most Rev Bishop Don Sproxton, Bishop of Perth, on Sunday 27th March.

The Chapel of St Brigid is a welcomed addition to the Mercy College community and the completion of this wonderful piece of architecture will seat over 400 students and further develop the strong links with the Mercy tradition of care for the body and spirit. The Chapel will be a focal point of the College with our Year 12 graduating students departing in an environment of outstanding pastoral care.
