Learning Centres - Middle Learning Centre

Welcome to the Middle Learning Centre (MLC) where our aim is to empower our Year Seven to Nine students to continue their commitment to the Mercy College vision.

In the footsteps of the Sisters of Mercy we work together during these formative years to overcome prejudice, difficulties and the fear of the unknown, to respect one another's uniqueness and to believe in God's love.

All Middle Learning Centre staff are dedicated solely to the students in these years. We are inspired by the rewarding nature of our students and our ability to make a difference in their lives.

The building of relationships between staff and students within the Middle Learning Centre is pivotal to the development of the identity of students within these formative years of adolescence. Each student and staff member is actively encouraged to build a positive and life long relationship. These relationships centre upon:
  • The development of expectations of mutual respect
  • Open communication and effective listening skills
  • Praise and encouragement
  • Fairness and consistency
  • The understanding that students are individuals
  • Cohesiveness of the Learning Centre
  • Pride in the Heritage of the College
Within the Middle Learning Centre staff have the privilege of teaching students in a number of their Learning Areas. This allows the prompt identification of each stage of the students' social, psychological, behavioural and academic development. Suitable strategies can then be employed to assist in achieving a holistic approach to the developmental journey of the student.

We envisage an exciting path before us as staff and students journey together in a spirit of community and following Christ's guiding light.

Our Learning Centre Staff are open to new ideas and keep abreast with educational trends which enable them to provide students with the tools, strategies and confidence to become life long learners. A variety of challenges are proposed to each student on a daily basis. This encourages them to learn in a way that directly relates to their experiences. Individual needs are identified for students to reach their full potential. Hence, support for those experiencing difficulties is offered and academic extension programs are developed for those requiring acceleration
