Mercy College : Subjects available Yr 7-12
Introduction:
The College reserves the right to discontinue any of the listed courses/subjects if there are not enough students in the subject to make them viable.
Year 7
All students study the following subjects: Religious Education, English, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment, Health and Physical Education, Art, Dance, Drama, Italian, Kitchen Kids, Music, Systems Technology.
Year 8
All students study the following subjects for the whole year:
Religious Education, English or English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment, Health and Physical Education.
In addition, students study two elective subjects for two periods each in Semester One, and a different two elective subjects for two periods each during Semester Two. The elective subjects come from the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology and Enterprise and the Science Learning Areas
Year 9
All students study the following subjects for the whole year:
Religious Education, English or English as a Second Language, Mathematics, Science, Society and Environment, Health and Physical Education.
In addition, students study two elective subjects for two periods each in Semester One, and a different two elective subjects for two periods each during Semester Two. The elective subjects come from the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Technology and Enterprise, and the Science Learning Areas.
If students choose the elective subjects Italian or Music, they study only three electives for the year.
Year 10
Art, Accounting and Finance 1A/1B, Computer Assisted Drawing, Dance, Drama, Design and Technology, Hospitality Studies, Media and Production Analysis 1A/1B, Applied Information Technology 1A/1B, Music, Outdoor Education 1A/1B, Soccer.
Year 11 and 12 courses

Year 11
All Year 11 courses have minimum Year 10 subject pre-requisites which students must have achieved during Year 10. Students with their parents/guardians select their Year 11 courses during an interview with a member of College Curriculum Committee. These interviews take place in the second half of third term. Year 11 students must choose their courses carefully. As Year 11 & Year 12 is generally a two-year academic program, all students are expected to continue each course in Year 12.
All Year 11 students study a total of six (6) courses as follows:

Students choose their remaining four (4) courses to maximise their chances of qualifying for entry to TAFE or University from the following list.

Some Year Eleven students are invited to take up places in the School Apprenticeship Link Program, or school-based traineeships. Such students enrol in one fewer subject in Year Eleven.
Year 12
All Year 12 subjects have minimum Year 11 subject pre-requisites which students must have achieved during of Year 11. Students with their parents/guardians select their subjects during an interview with a member of College Curriculum Committee. These interviews take place towards the middle of third term.
All Year 12 students study a total of 6 subjects as follows:
