Society and Environment uses a range of topics and tasks to encourage students to become alive to the important issues, concerns and conflicts that affect the wider world in which they live. We do this in order to empower the students to become active citizens who are capable of thinking for themselves and contributing their unique knowledge, skills and attitudes to help make positive changes to the world.
The study of Society and Environment encourages students to develop:
• Practical skills such as graphical analysis and interpretation, table and graph presentation, report and essay writing, cartoon and document analysis; and oral presentation skills;
• The use of information technology to enhance learning opportunities;
• An awareness of issues that have shaped our lives, our nation and the our world;
• A social consciousness and competence that will promote informed decision making;
• Independent and collaborative learning strategies to help them adapt to the demands of the modern workplace; and
• Social and personal values clarification
