On Friday 10 March, thirty students from Mercy College’s Swimming Team travelled to Bunbury for a friendly Swim Meet with local rivals John Septimus Roe (JSR) and Bunbury Cathedral College. Students were excited by the fact they were going to travel two hours out of Perth to compete in a very professionally run Swim Meet. Many swimmers were forced to compete against students who were two or three year levels above them, but this did not deter them from giving their absolute best. When the Swim Meet had wrapped up, we travelled down the road to Bunbury Cathedral’s campus where we were treated to an amazing barbecue dinner.
The following morning we shared a breakfast with JSR before students from both schools were put through their paces with a military style boot camp. Although it was hard sweaty work, there was clear enjoyment from everyone involved. After the boot camp, we travelled back to the pool for a swimming clinic run by the Busselton Swimming School. Students worked on some of the more technical areas of swimming such as starts and relay changes, which would hopefully give them a slight advantage at the ACC Carnivals. That ended a fantastic stay in Bunbury, and after a quick pit stop at a bakery for lunch, we were back at school and ready to go home. I would like to thanks Miss Katie McBride and Mrs Sharon Smith (Mercy Swim Coach) for their help down in Bunbury.
